“I like finding solutions to a challenge. I also like the thought of using my skillset and knowledge to help keep people safe.”
This week we welcomed Austin Goodall to our growing team, in the newly created role of Trainee Design Technician. Austin is straight out of a degree in Electronic Engineering at Ulster University and will be involved in the design of electronic fire and security systems.
We asked Austin to tell us a bit about himself, and his hopes for the new role.
Q: Tell us a bit about your background?
I have recently graduated from Ulster University, studying Electronic Engineering. I have always been interested in Electronics. Before studying at Ulster, I completed an HND at SERC, and also a Level 3 in Manufacturing Engineering at Belfast Met.
Whilst studying at Ulster, I undertook a placement year in Johnson Controls, where I learnt a lot of practical skills.
Q: What attracted you to a role in the Fire and Security industry?
I was attracted to the fire and security industry because there are a lot of elements to the design of the systems, and a lot of challenges to overcome with well thought out solutions, which is what I enjoy doing. I like finding solutions to a challenge. I also like the thought of using my skillset and knowledge to help keep people safe.
Q: What are your career aspirations?
My career aspirations are to progress through the company, moving up the chain to a managerial position. I am hoping that this position puts me in a place where I can help others progress in their careers, by giving advice, training, and teaching them.
Q: What are you looking forward to most about your initial few months at Diamond Systems?
I’m looking forward to learning more about the fire and security industry, and the design of the systems. I am also looking forward to meeting some of the goals I have set out regarding training with Diamond Systems, on system design and the costing of systems. I hope to learn as much about the standards of the industry as I can, and hopefully I’ll be smashing the initial goals set up by both the team and myself.
