This month we welcomed Jonathan McPolin to our team, as our new Systems Design Technician.

Read about Jonathan’s new role with us, and connect with him on Linkedin and at jonathan.mcpolin@diamondsystems.co.uk.

Q: How did you get into the fire & security industry?

A: I did my school work experience with a local fire alarm company, and thought that being on the road fixing problems on a daily basis would be an enjoyable role for me. So, at 19 I began an apprenticeship. Fast forward ten years, I’m now off the road and a qualified Systems Design Technician.

Q: What does a typical day look like in your role?

A: A typical day in my current role involves speaking to electrical contractors, verifying consultants’ designs, producing AutoCAD fire and security designs, and producing compliant system quotations for fire and security systems.

Q: What training/qualifications have you undertaken relevant to your role?

A: I have completed many of the FIA courses, but most notably the FIA Fire Detection & Alarm Advanced Designer (Level 6) qualification.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your role as Systems Design Technician?

A: I enjoy that every day brings variety and a different challenge.

Q: Tell us something people might not know about you!

A: That I am a massive ice hockey fan and big supporter of Belfast Giants. I also play the sport myself for a local team in Dundonald.

If you have a fire or security project that requires design or estimation, please get in touch with Jonathan on 02890 207 207.
