Donegall Square East in Belfast City Centre has been the official Headquarters of Ulster Bank Limited since 1999. The 125,000 square foot building has 7 storeys, as well as a 2 storey basement underneath the building for parking. The public banking area occupies the ground floor whilst offices, 40 conference rooms and a 200 seat cafeteria occupy the upper six floors.
The headquarters stands on the site of a 19th century Methodist Church. The structure of the church was demolished during construction of the Ulster Bank building, however the façade was retained and the new building constructed behind it. The construction was carried out in 1997-1998, at a cost of £26 million.
Diamond Systems were engaged to supply and commission the fire detection and alarm system in the Headquarters when the building was built in 1999. Diamond have maintained the life safety system since the original installation and carry out quarterly inspections and provide emergency engineering support.
